Taylor Swift Has Some Sad Family News

by Rachel Simon

Sad news for Taylor Swift and her family. In a note posted by the superstar on her Tumblr Thursday morning, Swift revealed that her mother, Andrea, has been diagnosed with cancer. According to the singer, the 57-year-old recently underwent testing at her daughter's insistence, which resulted in the discovery that she was suffering from the disease.

Swift chose to reveal her mother's condition — the details of which are unknown — because both she and her family thought fans should be aware of their situation.

"Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later," Swift wrote. "This is something my family and I thought you should know about now."

The singer said that her mother likely won't be attending as many of her daughter's shows as usual, due to her treatment. As Swift eloquently wrote, "she’s got an important battle to fight."

Elsewhere in the letter, the star encouraged fans, at her mother's urging, to ask their own parents to get checked out for health issues, as, if needed, regular screenings could lead to an earlier diagnosis. "I hope and pray that you never get news like this," Swift said.

Here's hoping Andrea recovers soon, and wishing all the best to Swift and her family as they deal with this painful situation.
