Mariah Carey's "Infinity" Says Adios To Past Love

by Melissah Yang

Mariah Carey has a very clear message: "You just lost the best you ever had." On Sunday night, Carey released her new song "Infinity" with a lyric video uploaded to her official YouTube account. The single, the only new song on her greatest-hits release Mariah Carey #1 To Infinity, is a major goodbye anthem to a past love — cough cough, Nick Cannon? — because according to MC, "There's an end to infinity."

"Infinity" is very Mariah. There are the breathy vocals and famous runs we know so well. The chorus is catchy, and I can see the song getting a lot of play, especially considering how absent she's been from the radio waves in recent years. But I found some of the lyrics a little underwhelming with gems like "Boy you actin' so corny like Fritos" and "If life was a game, you're a free throw." I don't know about you, but I miss the "Always Be My Baby" days. Or whatever happened to the emancipation of Mimi??

Still, it's great to hear Miss Mariah back in the studio, and I can't wait to see her comeback in full force. Carey is set to start her two-year gig at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in May, and you can be sure "Infinity" will be right beside the classics in her lineup.
