Recreate Zendaya's Plaid Look In Every Size

by Charmaine Simmons

Zendaya is, in part, known for her ever so stylish attire, which often makes her stand out from her fellow celebs on the red carpet. Recently, Zendaya fashion even freshened up a '90s trend via a beautiful plaid (or tartan) suit by Vivienne Westwood. And it was obviously the perfect thing to wear whilst in Los Angeles at a launch for the English designer's new collection.

Making her way around the launch party, Zendaya looked effortlessly cool in a red and blue plaid matching blazer and pantsuit. The stunning yet trendy co-ord set was the perfect way to develop a mature version of Cher Horowitz from Clueless' matching yellow plaid blazer and mini skirt look.

With a white t-shirt and gold stilettos, Zendaya added a more laid-back feel to her menswear inspired ensemble, ultimately ensuring easy day to night transitions. To add an ideal finishing touch to the look, Zendaya donned a sleek low bun — further helping to gender neutralize her style.

If Zendaya can wear a plaid suit, I guess I can too. I have always been nervous about testing out matching plaid coordinates, but Zendaya has convinced me to take a fashion risk. I mean, is it really fun to play it safe with your attire forever? I don't think so.

Not ready to fully take a fashion risk and dip into the matching plaid suit trend completely, though? That is perfectly fine. There are other ways to test out the oh-so-fun tartan trend this summer.

From plaid shorts to digital plaid skirts, you will have some fun playing around with this print during the upcoming season(s). Thanks for the inspiration, Zendaya!

Matching Co-Ords Short Set

ASOS Curve Co-ord Exclusive Shorts in Check, $33, asos.com

Is it too hot for plaid pants? No worries. These tartan shorts are perfect for those scorching hot days ahead. Plus, it has a matching shirt so you can truly dip into the '90s trend that is coming back into the limelight.

Pair these matching coordinates with sneakers, Chelsea boots, or even gold heeled sandals like my girl Zendaya.

Checked Pants

ASOS Premium Plaid Check Leg Pants, $81, asos.com

These pants are a perfect dupe for Zendaya's plaid ones. Match these tartan pants with either a coordinating plaid blazer or even a black one. Plus, they are office appropriate! So rock these bottoms at your day job and be added to the best-dressed list.

Plaid Crop Top

Alice Takes a Trip Cropped Plaid Top Co-Ord, $54, asos.com

Wanna have fun with this menswear look? Opt for a plaid crop top instead of a blazer to pair with your fitted plaid trousers. This will make the look a little more feminine while still playing with menswear. It will be like having your cake and eating it too.

Gold Heels

Joe's Jeans Nox High Heel Sandal, $70, nordstromrack.com

This look cannot be complete without gold heeled sandals. Gold heeled sandals are what Zendaya wore to add some traditional femininity to her look, and they were a great choice. Your feet will definitely be shining in the sun this summer when you are rocking these showstoppers.

Checked Leggings

ASOS Curve Legging in New Plaid Print, $33, asos.com

These leggings are great for the ladies who want to rock this '90s trend even while working out or running errands. You can pair these checked leggings with a plain white t-shirt (similar to Zendaya) and sneakers. Check those errands off your to-do list in style, girl!

Digital Checked Midi Skirt

ASOS Curve Midi Skirt in Digital Check Print, $81, asos.com

Want to know what is better than a plaid printed midi skirt? A digital plaid printed midi skirt. Yes, I said it correctly. This fun print is a step up from the '90s plaid print trend that made a comeback in fall of 2014.

Plaid Cape

ASOS Check Cape, $34, asos.com

Plaid capes were a complete hit in fall 2014 during New York Fashion Week. Even though it is approaching summer and the temperatures are rising, there is always a way you can play with this fun trend (I mean, it doubles as a light blanket).

Pack this with you on a night out when the temperature usually drops, or even in your beach bag for an oceanic visit.
