Who Stars In 'Dope'?

by Maggie Malach

With the arrival of summer comes a brand new crop of films to fawn over, and take it from me — fawn over is exactly what you're going to do when you see Dope , the new film from filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa. In addition to a genuinely great, intriguing plot, the cast is a great collection of talented actors that the seasoned film-goer will likely recognize from other projects. However, for those viewers who may not watch many movies, the faces might not seem so familiar and lead some to wonder: "Who stars in Dope ?"

First things first, in case you're not familiar with the plot just yet, let's start there — the trailer gives the lowdown on the story: "Malcolm is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself." It's a fresh take on the feel-good underdog theme often seen in films, and the cast truly lights up the screen.

In addition to a stellar cast, the movie boasts an A-list production team, including Forest Whitaker, Pharrell Williams (executive producer), and Sean Combs (executive producer). It was also was a hit at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

Considering the movie hit theaters on June 19, here's a handy guide on just who's who in the film — and where you may have seen them before.
