If you're not yet excited for HBO's upcoming crime series True Detective yet, stop whatever you're doing right now and use this as an excuse to get excited — because this is going to be awesome. It was clear after the first trailer was released earlier this year, but with every new piece of promotion that HBO releases, it becomes more and more of a sure thing. The newest promotional material: Two new promos and a poster for True Detective, in anticipation of the show's upcoming Jan. 12 premiere.
For those not yet familiar with the show: It follows the story of two detectives (portrayed by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey), who investigate the case of a serial killer terrorizing the communities in the backroads and swamps of Louisiana. The two become embroiled and obsessed in the hunt for the killer that lasts nearly two decades — between the first murder in 1995 to the reopening of the case in 2012. This series, along with his upcoming films Dallas Buyers Club and The Wolf of Wall Street, also sees McConaughey officially shed his image as a shitty rom-com golden boy — and reminds us all that he can legitimately act. Color me impressed!
