Morgan Freeman's Granddaughter Stabbed To Death

by Rachel Simon

What heartbreaking news. On Sunday, Aug. 16, the granddaughter of Morgan Freeman was stabbed to death in New York City. E'Dena Hines, the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, was 33 years old. According to People, who confirmed the news from the NYPD, a man was taken into custody and brought to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, but the investigation is ongoing.

The details are absolutely tragic. According to People, Hines, the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, was found lying in the street outside her home early on Sunday morning. She had suffered several stab wounds, and was taken by paramedics to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Hines was an actress and writer, and spent her career involved in the New York acting scene and teaching underprivileged kids in Tennessee, according to her website. She frequently blogged about her experiences, and recently wrote about her joy over landing her first movie audition in over a year. She booked the role, for an indie film, and wrote, "My dream has come true and its just beginning."

On Sunday, Freeman released a statement to People about his granddaughter's tragic death. Said the actor, "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

What an awful tragedy. My thoughts are with Freeman and the rest of Hines' family as they grieve her loss during this heartbreaking time.
