Despite the fact that Dancing With The Stars pro Mark Ballas has been a zombie, Walt from Breaking Bad, and many other characters on the show, I never expected to see a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle on Dancing With The Stars until now. Social media darling and all-around cute teen Hayes Grier transformed himself with partner Emma Slater to perform to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme song. In homage to, well, himself, Hayes filmed a Dancing With The Stars Vine in rehearsal to post to his fans and it was super cute.
Frankly, I’m surprised that this didn’t happen before! Hayes is famous because he is the king of the six-second video, so he really should be using his social media status as a platform to get even more votes. Release some Vines with Emma, Hayes! Sure, you have to rehearse, but isn’t marketing half the battle on shows like this? I wonder what sort of social media rules ABC has for contestants when you’re on Dancing With The Stars. According to his Vine profile, Hayes hasn’t posted a Vine in nearly a month (aka the time during which he has been on the show), so maybe there are some serious rules about social media on Dancing With The Stars. Or maybe Emma and Hayes just don’t have time to make a ton of cute, six-second clips. I think they’re missing a big marketing opportunity here.
Oh, and that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle dance? Let’s take a look at it:
Though it was fun and imaginative (at least to my untrained eye), the judges (even Alfonso Ribeiro and Carrie Ann) weren’t really so keen on it. They mostly didn’t like that Hayes was wearing a mask and they felt like it was pretty low on the energy. You know what I bet the judges would like? A Vine of Hayes and Emma shaking it on the dance floor. Just something to consider, Hayes!
