This 'Walking Dead' Spoiler Is the Worst Yet

Did you think that with the recent deaths of Lori, Andrea, and Hershel that The Walking Dead would finally take a break from the death/mayhem/destruction for a while when the season returns next month? Ha! Are we watching the same show? Because you are wrong, very wrong. In fact, it seems that Hershel's death and the river of tears it prompted every fan to cry has just invigorated the writing team for this show, because according to a new spoiler, The Walking Dead plans to kill a character this season who is still alive in the comics. In other words: Rick, Carl, Maggie, or Michonne will be meeting their end at some point before this season is over.

But who could it be? Maggie or Carl are certainly the most predictable candidates, and for that reason, they might be the least likely to go — killing off Maggie would leave the show with barely any female presence, and it would really mess up the one ray of light the show has at the moment, which is her relationship with Glenn. Carl dying would completely wreck Rick to the point of catatonic shock, so it's not clear where they'd take his character after that.

Killing off Rick or Michonne, on the other hand, seems less predictable — Michonne because of the massive amount of fans she has, and Rick because, though this is an ensemble series, he still remains the main guy in the show, our entry point into this world of destruction and zombies. Rick meeting his grisly end would be a shocking turn of events that would surely have people talking for months in the blogosphere, and it seems like just the kind of insane thing the writers would do — plus, it would see the show's dynamics shifting greatly as the group introduces another leader. Daryl is likely safe since he's not even in the comics, so I could see him being leader of the group. It would be ballsy, but TWD could easily pull it off.

That is, of course, not the only spoiler about TWD floating around on the Internet, though. A less heartbreaking but still shocking one comes from io9, which states that after presumably dying in the midseason finale late last year, The Governor might actually make a return to the show at some point in time. At least, that's what this quote from actor David Morrissey, who portrays The Governor, suggests:

Something happened to him. I feel like a shady politician where I can't confirm and I can't deny anything. Certainly, bad things befell him at the end of the last episode but we just have to wait and see.

The strange thing about this, however, is that The Governor was confirmed dead by an executive producer — so if he did return, it's really not clear how. Of course, this could all be an elaborate ploy to get us to theorize even more about what the future of this show holds, in which case... well, it worked.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC with new episodes on Feb. 9.
