5SOS' "Jet Black Heart" Video Is Super Emotional

by Michelle McGahan

I knew from the get-go that 5 Seconds of Summer's "Jet Black Heart" music video was going to be super emotional. Not only was I rejoicing that the band (finally) decided to release this powerful anthem as their newest single (it is, without a doubt, the track that best encapsulates the overall sound of Sounds Good Feels Good ), it is a killer tune when performed live. And once 5SOS announced that they wanted fans to be a part of the "Jet Black Heart" music vid, there was no doubt in my mind that it was going to be the perfect visual representation of The New Broken Scene, a movement started by the band to unite with their fans in struggle.

"We're here to enforce positivity and a light into our fans' lives, so the idea of the 'new broken scene' is sort of a movement that's about more than just music — it's saying we're all in this together," the guys told Notion magazine earlier this year.

And nothing proves that more than the video for "Jet Black Heart," which features clips of fans belting out the poignant lyrics interspersed with shots of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Ashton Irwin, and Calum Hood singing the song themselves.

Check out the video (and GIFs) below.

One of the most poignant aspects of the video was seeing each of the guys get so emotional

As well as every individual fan:

And then the lead up to the crescendo — the feels are real

God bless "Jet Black Heart," 5SOS' greatest work to date.
