Is Pronouncing Saoirse Ronan's Name Hard For You? Let Ryan Gosling Explain
Hey girl, are people constantly and infuriatingly pronouncing your name wrong? Well then imaginary boyfriend of the Internet, Ryan Gosling, is here to help. As People reported on Sunday, Gosling will teach you how to pronounce Saoirse Ronan's name, since some (many) people were having difficulty with it. Ronan, the star of my new favorite film, Brooklyn, has a particularly difficult name to pronounce, but thankfully, her former Lovely Bones co-star Gosling has valiantly taken it upon himself to teach the public how to say it correctly.
Ronan explained to People that Gosling's explanation of her name as"Ser-sha, like inertia," late last year at the Hollywood Film Awards, set everyone who had been mispronouncing her name straight. In fact, she was so grateful to him for the clarification that she paid him a divine compliment, one that is sure to become a lifelong alternate moniker for him. Said Ronan,
Someone sent me a photo two weeks later of a cinema in Minnesota, and on the sign in the front it said Brooklyn and then underneath it said, 'Ser-sha, Like Inertia.' I couldn't believe it! They actually put it on the front of the cinema, so the power of Ryan Gosling is stronger than anything else. He's like, Jesus or something, like a blond Canadian Jesus.
As someone whose first name is constantly spelled wrong and whose last name is always unfailingly mispronounced, I can certainly identify with the actor's seemingly overt proclamation. You guys, it's super annoying to be called the wrong name and/or to hear your name being savagely butchered. And, annoyance aside, it is far more awkward to have to correct the name butchers yourself. So, to people like Ronan and me, Gosling most certainly is a savior of sorts. Just one more reason to love him, am I right?
