9 Reasons To Start Sleeping Naked

If you're anything like me, then you've probably been sleeping naked for years and loving every second of it. But if you don't sleep naked yet ... well, you need to get on that. Not only is sleeping naked way more comfortable than sleeping in constricting pajamas, it's been scientifically proven that sleeping naked is really good for your health and overall wellbeing. Evidently, sleeping in the buff can boost self-esteem, improve the quality of your sleep, and spice up your sex life. Sleeping naked is even better for the overall health of your vagina! What's not to like?

I realize that winter may not seem like the ideal time to try sleeping without any clothes on, and I will admit that sleeping naked can make it harder to get out of bed on cold mornings. That said, I can tell you from personal experience that the nights I sleep naked are the nights I get the best sleep, and that I wake up feeling sexier. Any temporary chill getting out of bed is more than worth it.

If you're still not sold on the idea of sleeping naked, then read on. Here's nine reasons you should start sleeping naked — tonight.

1. It's Way More Comfortable

I realize that sleeping in the nude comes with the risk of being seen naked by your roommates, family members, and friends, but I still maintain that the comfort of sleeping naked is worth any potential embarrassment that might accompany it.

Sleeping naked means never again will your sweatshirt try to choke you, you'll probably experience far less night-sweating, and you'll get to appreciate the feeling of your coziest comforter on your bare skin. Seriously, sleeping naked is so comfortable that if you decide to try it, I don't think you'll be able to go back to sleeping with clothes on. Or, at the very least, you'll probably never wear pants to bed again.

2. It Challenges You To Become More Body Positive

If you sleep naked long enough, you'll start to become more and more comfortable with your own nudity. The more comfortable you are with your naked body, the more you'll start to appreciate just how gorgeous you are nude, and the more body positive you'll become.

Personally, I'm far from being free of body image issues, but sleeping naked has helped me to feel more positive about my own body. I'm unashamed to admit that waking up naked makes me feel like Aphrodite.

3. You Probably Won't Wake Up As Much Throughout The Night

I definitely sleep best when I'm naked, but if my personal experience isn't enough to convince you that naked sleep equals better sleep, know that science is on the side of us naked sleepers.

As you might already know, your body's temperature is meant to drop during sleep. If that doesn't happen, you'll almost definitely overheat and wake up in the middle of the night sweaty and grumpy. While sleeping naked may not prevent this completely, you'll definitely be less likely to have your sleep interrupted by night sweats if you're not wearing clothes to bed, because your body can better regulate its temperature without all those clothes in the way.

4. It's Good For Your Vagina

If you're worried that sleeping without underwear is unsanitary, don't be; sleeping naked (as long as you wash your bedding regularly) is actually really good for your vagina. Sleeping in your underwear is actually far riskier than sleeping nude, because sleeping in tight underwear creates a moist, dark environment where bacteria could grow overnight. Conversely, sleeping without undies gives your pussy a chance to air out.

5. You'll Get To Skip Your Morning Shower Once In A While

I take my showers at night, because I tend to hit snooze for about 90 minutes before I actually drag my butt out of bed, and also because I like to exercise in the evenings. However, if you're one of those people who likes to shower in the morning, it might interest you to know that sleeping naked will probably mean you can skip your morning shower once in a while. The fact is, fewer night sweats + an aired out vagina = a cleaner body. And if you wake up clean, it's not going to be the end of the world if you don't shower before work.

6. You'll Have Less Laundry To Do

For real, though. The less laundry you have to do the better, and if you're not wearing clothes to bed, you'll have fewer loads to wash.

7. It Could Help With Binge-Eating

Weight gain is very much tied to stress in general, and the stress hormone cortisol in particular. As it happens, this hormone is at it's lowest levels in our bodies while we sleep. So if you sleep poorly, or not enough, you're likely to wake up with high cortisol levels. And since cortisol works to jump-start your appetite, this could result in binge-eating.

If you're trying to lose weight, or you just want to maintain your current weight, you should know that sleeping naked has been shown to help with that. We've already established that a naked night's sleep tends to be a better night's sleep, and a better night's sleep can help you avoid weight gain.

8. Skin-To-Skin Contact Reduces Stress & Lowers Blood Pressure

Physical touch is soothing, and skin-to-skin contact helps to stimulate your body's release of oxytocin, or, "the love hormone." Additionally, as CNN reported back in 2011, touch has been shows to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and contribute to increased happiness overall.

So if you sleep with your partner, or if you share a bed with your "Netflix and chill" buddies, you should really try sleeping together in the nude. In my experience, sleeping naked with your partners usually results in some next-level cuddling, and that almost always leads to some next-level sex. Which brings us to...

9. You'll Probably Have Better & More Frequent Sex

I mean, if you and your partner wake up naked with each other, then it stands to reason that morning sex is far more likely to happen. And since all that skin-to-skin contact from your naked cuddles will probably have you feeling super loving (or at least horny) toward each other anyway, the sex is bound to be pretty fantastic.

At least, that's usually how it works for me when I sleep naked with one of my sexual partners. But don't take my word for it. The next time you have an adult sleepover, lose the pajamas and just see what happens in the morning. Trust me, you won't regret it.
