2016 SAG Awards Honor Actors We've Lost

by Caitlin Flynn

In the most sobering moment of the evening, Susan Sarandon took the stage to present the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards In Memorian segment. It paid tribute to all the members of the Screen Actors Guild who we've lost since last year's show, and reminded us that their creativity and passion will live on thanks to the amazing work they left behind. She opened with a quote from her dear friend David Bowie, who passed away on Jan. 10 at age 69: "All cliches are true. The years really do speed by. Life really is as short as they tell you it is." Sarandon continued with her own words:

Those words resonate when we've lost someone who made a special impact on us. So let's now pause to remember some of the actors whose earthly voices have been silenced but whose brilliance and creativity still speak in the unforgettable work they've left behind.

The segment featured clips showcasing the work of many SAG members, including Bowie, Natalie Cole, Maureen O'Hara, Rod Taylor, Leonard Nimoy, and Alan Rickman. Their lives may have been short, but as Sarandon reminded us, their work will never be forgotten.
