By the beard of zeus! 'Anchorman 3' is a no go

by Alanna Bennett

RIP Ron Burgundy. He lived a long, ridiculous life. And no, he did not die an onscreen death, but it seems he's died a different one: According to writer, producer, and comedy bigshot Adam McKay, there won't be an Anchorman 3 . So what do you think? Is the legend of Ron Burgundy at an end with Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy? That's certainly what MCKay said in a recent interview with Empire:

It was great to do it and it was so fun to work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy. There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version, we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman 3.

The film's sequel certainly left things pretty wrapped up for the iconic Anchorman: Happy with his wife and son, continuing success as the anchor with the key to America's heart/interest. In fact, it's probably wise that McKay seems to see no reason to drag out the character's journey, or to drum up obviously artificial conflict material for another sequel. There's almost no doubt studios would jump at the chance to crank out another of these movies (or two, or eight), so it's nice to know the chances of the producers putting their own weight behind that is slim.
