Beyoncé has her Lemonade, but her former Destiny's Child co-member Kelly Rowland’s been pretty busy, too — she, along with Destiny’s Child choreographer Frank Gatson Jr., have been in the process of putting together the world’s newest girl group on BET’s Chasing Destiny. And now, she’s finally crowned the winning group! The group, called June's Diary, is comprised of Ashly Williams, Brienna Devlogt, Gabrielle Carreiro, Shyann Roberts, and Kristal Lyndriette — but, given they're brand-new, some fans might be wondering: who exactly is June’s Diary?
Rowland started her own Making The Band-esque journey a few months ago with the help of BET — she, like Puff Daddy before her, wanted to put together the best possible girl group she could make. And it’s not like she’s doesn’t have the experience — Rowland was a member of Destiny’s Child, aka one of the biggest girl groups of all time. She knows what “it” looks like, since she has “it” and has, you know, hung out with Beyoncé.
June’s Diary was happy to premiere their new song and video, “L.A.N.C.E.,” on the 2016 BET Awards red carpet. About a man who is cheating and messing around on his girl and basically ain’t worth a damn, it sounds like a “No Scrubs” for the 2010s, and I’m digging it.
These women have worked really hard to get where they are. They all can sing, they’re all beautiful, and, perhaps most importantly, they all want to be the best girl group they can be. June’s Diary’s song is perhaps the best way to get to know them (you should listen to it above), and if “L.A.N.C.E.” is any indication of future success, I’m going to say that these lovely ladies are going to just fine with Rowland and Gatson at the helm of their ship.
