Fast Facts About The 2016 Paralympic Games — VIDEO
If you watched the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, you know how incredible it is. The strength, determination, artistry and prowess in each and every one of the athletes who marches in the Parade of Nations during the Opening Ceremony is endlessly inspiring, and as soon as I watch the first group of winning athletes stand on that podium and receive their medals, I almost immediately came down with a case of the goosebumps that persist all throughout the competition. And if you think the Olympic Games last just sixteen days, you might wanna think again. Almost immediately following its conclusion is when the 2016 Paralympic Games start, which showcases the physical strength, mental toughness and competitive spirit of Para athletes to break through stereotypes and make the world a more inclusive place for those with impairments.
According to the IPC (or the International Paralympic Committee) website, the goal of the Paralympic Games is to make the world a more inclusive place by "enabl[ing] Para athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world." It works towards this mission by supporting all athletes, regardless of limitation, in their athletic skills and their passion for elite competition.
