Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore: Stars of the Year?

by Alicia Lutes

Well this should tell you pretty much any and everything you need to know about how Hollywood awards often work. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, two actors who have yet to release a film this year — and between the two of them only released one last year, Sandler's Grown Ups 2 which garnered an, uh, impressive (?) 7% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes — are going to be awarded the Female and Male Star of the Year Awards at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas. OOOOOOK?

But! This might make things all a bit clearer for you: the 3-day long show, happening in Las Vegas, is frequently a time where movie studios usher out their upcoming summer features. And, oh golly gee willikers look at that, Barrymore and Sandler just so happen to be teaming up this summer! The Warner Brothers production, called Blended, is the third film they've co-headlined together (the first two being The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates). Whoa! Like, what are the odds of that? Right? WILD coincidences abound in Vegas, my friends.

For those dying to know what sort of original concept that's yet to even be released could garner such recognition for its stars, Blended is said to be about two parents that find themselves stuck together on a vacation in Africa following a bad blind date. It's like 50 First Dates meets Couples Retreat ! With a release date of May 23rd, the film is already on the horizon, so you won't have to wait too long to see what sort of performances would garner its stars the Male Star of the Year and Female Star of the Year awards.
