Justin Bieber's 2016 VMAs Plans Were A+

by Taylor Ferber

Valid excuses for missing Queen Beyoncé perform Lemonade live are far and few between. I would only accept being on your death bed, or... no, that's pretty much it, just the death bed thing. However, on Sunday night during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, Justin Bieber created a new excuse that I think would be approved and supported by anyone, even the most hardcore of the Beyhive. The 22-year-old, who's seen plenty of VMAs in his day, skipped out on the big night, and I can't say I blame him. I mean, he bawled on stage last year during his comeback performance. He's been dodging dating rumors left and right. He's still recovering from epic Selena Gomez shade. He's exhausted, guys. But, not too exhausted to have a night of glory...

Like Gomez and Taylor Swift, who also skipped the VMAs, Bieber has been dealt with one hand of drama after the other lately. Why wouldn't he take a night to just drink whiskey at a low-key Irish pub where no one, literally no one, would be looking for him? He could, and he did. According to multiple sources, Bieber kicked back in a Studio City, Calif. strip mall at Residuals Tavern, where he reportedly knows the owner.

But wait, there's more.

Apparently, he drank Jack Daniels all night like a true American, and even performed karaoke. Not just any karaoke, though: The underrated '60s classic "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis. Because the Internet exists, there's video documentation.

He's so into it, it's like he might as well have been dominating the VMAs stage. But perhaps the biggest winner of the night was this Snapchat user who failed to type the singer's name correctly:

I salute you, Biebs. And I'm sure even Bey would understand.
