The Time Zosia Didn't Wear Black

by Mary Avant

With any big film, there are a long list of screenings, premieres, photo calls, Q&A panels, and various other press events to attend day after day in country after country on continent after continent. And when a film is as huge and highly anticipated as young-adult-series-turned-movie Divergent , it only gets more intense. With all this hustle and bustle, you really can’t blame some of the film’s biggest stars — including Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, and Ashley Judd — for not showing up to each and every event along the promo tour. But that’s OK, because at last night’s Marie Claire–hosted Divergent screening in New York City, there were plenty of unexpected faces ready to take the actresses’ place on the red carpet — and look ultra fashionable doing it.

First and foremost was Girls star Zosia Mamet, who surprised us all when she hit the red carpet not in the simple, toned-down numbers she usually wears but rather in a gorgeous, fitted, COLORFUL print sheath dress from Peter Pilotto. Complementing the lacy look with a kohl-rimmed eye, nude lip, chain necklace, piled-on rings, and color-blocked Charlotte Olympia pumps, Mamet was undoubtedly the brightest star of the evening.

Former Revenge star Margarita Levieva went for a print, too, but opted instead for a subtler, black-and-white pattern on her flowing, voluminous maxi skirt. Pairing the statement piece with a simple, emerald green button-down blouse; a swept-back bun; and a rosy-pink lip, Levieva nailed the laid-back-but-statement-making look perfectly.

On an average day, Victoria’s Secret model Lindsay Ellingson has absolutely no problem capturing the attention of, well, anyone, but dressed in a black, skin-tight crop-top-and-pencil-skirt combo, she easily had all eyes on her. Ellingson complemented the sexy look with partless, slicked-back hair; chic white pumps; and a simple clutch.

And even though Mamet, Levieva, and Ellingson were the event's fashion standouts, we can’t go without mentioning the film’s star, Shailene Woodley. The blossoming actress looked beyond gorgeous — and much more modern and edgier than usual — in her structured, black Elie Saab jumpsuit, which featured a sheer, detailed neckline and contoured waist. She kept her styling simple, complimenting the look with metallic gold pumps, a sleek pixie cut, and a color-drenched lip.

We can't wait to have Winslet and Maggie Q back on the red carpet alongside Woodley, but last night's fill-in stars were almost as good as the real thing. Almost.
