There you stand, alone in the face wash aisle of the drugstore. Before you is an impressive display of skin care products — creamy washes for dry skin, lotions for combination skin, and (weirdly) oils for oily skin. As the weight of indecision presses down on your shoulders, you finally come to terms with the fact you have no idea what type of skin you have. So really, how can you choose?
This is where a little knowledge can definitely help. After all, skin care products tend to fall into one of those three categories: oily, dry, or combination. Knowing which one best describes your face means getting the perfect product, and thus better skin. (Yay!)
This is especially helpful now that it's fall. As the season changes, your skin is likely doing all sorts of wild things (read: getting oily or drier than ever before). If that's the case, then check out the helpful flow chart we created. It'll bring you through various skin scenarios that happen to best of us — flaking skin, growing pores, melting makeup, etc. — and finally to your skin type. You'll then get a customized skin care suggestion from board-certified dermatologist Dr. Kally Papantoniou, who told me some of her favorite products and go-to cleansing techniques. Give it a try, and save yourself from ever having to stare blankly in the drugstore again.
