This year has been better for diversity in makeup, and although we aren't quite there yet, brands have at least been stepping things up with more options for various skintones than ever before. Among higher-end brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills and Hourglass, there are now plenty of choices, but it's been slower going at the drugstore. But the Internet has come through once again, with a r/MakeupAddiction thread dedicated to one inexpensive highlighter for darker skintones that Reddit is loving.

Where many cheaper highlighters typically only come in two or three shades and are sometimes considered a one-shade-fits-all category, this brand recognizes that is not the case. This thread is booming with praise for NYX's Bright Idea Illuminating Stick highlighter, which comes in 12 shades.

"I feel like these colors are unique for the drugstore and for mid-high end. Usually highlights geared toward darker skin tones are super gold, and while that looks nice, these tones are more based on actual skin tones," writes Redditor sledgirl603. "Like, thank you NYX for finally getting the picture!"

The multi-use Illuminating Sticks only cost $7.99, and apparently shot to Reddit's attention after NYX Cosmetics regrammed a photo of Instagrammer @cocoaswatches demonstrating the line's range.

The three shades, Sandy Glow, Maui Suntan and Topaz Tan all look rather natural and prove NYX's understanding that darker skin exists in variations the same way lighter skin does.

Here's hoping more drugstore brands follow suit.

As far as other cheaper options go, Colourpop also has an extensive highlighter range.

Other inexpensive options for dark skin highlighters are the L'Oréal True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator, which comes in a golden-hued shade.

It seems like brands are finally taking note of what customers want — more options for every single skintone.
