'American Idol' Endlessly Repeats This One Song

by Alanna Bennett

I did not know until three minutes ago that there was such a thing as "American Idol spoilers." Apparently there are! Oh, and this post has them. They're in the title and also a lot of the rest of them. So, be warned? Because the American Idol set list for the top nine's been released, and they're doing "Rhiannon." Again. If the entire American Idol audience listens to Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" from here into eternity, does it become the show's theme song? Do our brains implode? Does Stevie Nicks storm the theater in a fiery rage to face off against Ryan Seacrest a la this scene from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix*?

Who knows. What we do know is that they do this song a lot. Sometimes it goes fine, sometimes it probably makes Stevie Nicks want to be dead specifically so she could roll in her grave.

It's a great song. It's perfect for teen witches, for example. And the singers of American Idol can perform whatever songs they like — but maybe diversify a little, y'know? There's a lot of music out there.

*by the way, in that scene Jennifer Lopez would be Bellatrix and Randy Jackson is Harry.

Here's Didi Benami singing "Rhiannon":
