See 'The Simpsons' Get Lego-fied

by Alanna Bennett

The Simpsons has been on for approximately a zillion and a half years, so you'd think they'd have done everything by now. Somehow they haven't, though, which is why people are still paying attention at the fact that The Simpsons is doing a Lego episode. If any show on network television would make sense as the site for a thing like this the top contenders seem like they'd be Community and The Simpsons, so this makes sense. It's also pretty smart, considering the success of The Lego Movie, a film that entertained adult audiences almost as much as it entertained their kids. Although according to Simpsons executive producer Matt Selman's interview with Entertainment Weekly the two have no relation:

We didn’t know about the movie at that point. For the record, we still don’t know about the movie. [Laughs] [Co-executive producer Brian Kelley] and I had been dreaming of doing a Simpsons Lego episode for as long as we could remember, and in early 2012 we started seriously talking about making it happen. Then we found out that Lego was into doing a Simpsons couch gag. So it was a magical coming-together of pretend yellow people.

Regardless of influence, new images from the episode seem to point to some similarities (mainly the father-child activity at the mini Lego town), though the Springfield shenanigans seem unique:
