Now This is How You Do Spring Style

by Mary Avant

It’s hard to narrow down the exact moment when I became obsessed with Zoe Saldana and her impeccable sense of style. Maybe it was the 100th time I watched the bad-girl ballerina take the spotlight in Center Stage, or perhaps it was that time she wore the gorgeous green Elie Saab gown to the 2011 Latin Grammy Awards. But what I do know is that my deep admiration for the stunning star’s flawless fashion sense has only grown stronger with every red carpet she hits and style event she attends.

And it’s pretty easy to see why. Whether she’s going casual in a pink leather dress, sizzlingly sexy in an embellished Balmain mini, all-out glam in a candy cane–striped gown, or positively couture in a show-stopping Prabal Gurung ensemble, the always-glorious Saldana never fails to hit the style nail on the head when she steps out on the red carpet.

Her appearance at Tuesday’s 2014 AOL Digital Content NewFront event was no exception, of course. Decked out in a full-on floral number from of-the-moment designer Roksanda Ilincic, Saldana looked like an absolute breath of fresh, spring air at a time when some celebs are still holding on to their winter coats and covered-up ensembles.

With its flouncy-but-flattering fit; sheer sleeves and back; ruffled peplum detailing; cinched waist; and contrasting, poppy red collar, the outfit was tailor made for a casual, spring event. Styling the look with matching patent leather pumps, a color-drenched lip, and a cobalt blue clutch, Saldana showed us all how easy it is to pull off bright hues and pretty prints for the new season.

The event’s host, Sarah Jessica Parker, took a cue from Saldana and tried her hand at spring style, too, opting for a simple, white fit-and-flare dress from Alexander McQueen. With cap sleeves, a subtle tulip print, and metallic-blue heels, the actress and style icon showed off an effortlessly chic seasonal ensemble.

Aside from her lavender locks and sky-high hemline, however, designer Nicole Richie didn’t seem to be in the same spring state of mind as her fellow guests. Wearing a boat-neck, gold-embellished, triangle-hem frock from designer Anthony Vaccarello, Richie kept things dark and daring with her strappy Jimmy Choo sandals and thigh-high, sheer stockings.

I’m sure dressing as fabulously and flawlessly as Saldana day in and day out can’t be an easy feat, but let’s just hope the stylish star’s spring ensemble will rub off on those celebs who are still a wee bit behind the season.
