This Celebrity Approves of J.J. Abrams' Work

by Emma Goddard

With high anticipation surrounding the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, director J.J. Abrams is likely under a lot of pressure from those who will be forever faithful to the movie franchise that was once under George Lucas’ watchful eye. Similarly, for all of those Star Trek fans out there, it was a big deal when Abrams first took creative control over the most recent films starring Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana. So when major scifi actor and former Star Trek TV star commends for your work on both movies, you must be doing something right. William Shatner has nothing but praise for Abrams and his work on both franchises even though of course he will forever be loyal to Captain Kirk and his team.

In a recent interview, Shatner noted how Abrams was able to “bring in a new audience and revive the Star Trek franchise to a large degree.”

“We all tried — even I tried — to give Star Trek a boost,” Shatner said. “And it could never get more box office than $100 million. Then, along comes J.J. who gives the audience a ride with special effects and running and jumping. So the new Star Trek movies have far outgrossed anything that we ever did. It’s. The. Ride.”

He even believes that Abrams will most definitely be able to bring this so-called “ride” of story telling into the Star Wars films as well. However, with odd ride theories aside, it’s pretty much safe to say that receiving any sort of compliment from the likes of Shatner holds a lot of power behind it.
