Garrett Hedlund Rejects 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Role: What Other Actors Won't Play Christian Grey?

Sorry, Damon lovers. Despite the fact that Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder seemed to fit Christian Grey like asparagus fits a sexy meal in Fifty Shades of Grey, the actor will not be starring in the adaptation directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. Though the actor campaigned for the role while speaking to Ryan Seacrest in April — telling the host that it "would be a phenomenal opportunity" — sources say E.L. James is simply not interested. According to Us Weekly, the author of the bestselling franchise said "the part won't go to Ian." Any CW fan will tell you that's a bloody mistake, but perhaps Somerhalder will have a chance after all thanks to process of elimination — several Hollywood actors have already rejected the notion of playing Christian Grey. So who's out for the count? Read on to see which stars will not be playing the Mark Zuckerberg of S&M.

Garrett Hedlund

According to Us, the TRON: Legacy actor was offered the role, but turned it down, not wanting to commit to a trilogy of films. And since we weren't able to commit to Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed either, we certainly don't blame him.

Armie Hammer

Despite The Social Network actor's numerous conversations about his sex life, Hammer has said he didn't want to star in Fifty Shades of Grey, which he labeled "mommy porn." He'll talk in interviews about being a "dominant lover" and being stabbed during sex, but, no, guys, he really, really doesn't want to be considered for Christian Grey, so just stop talking about it. Oh, did you know he used to like pulling women's hair in bed? But, guys, seriously, no.

Stephen Amell

Like many Fifty Shades readers, the Arrow star Amell didn't have any problem with the book's sex scenes, but with the fact that the rest of the novel is, quite simply, boring. As the actor — who had previously met with producers about starring in the film prior to reading the book — said to Access Hollywood, "I didn’t find [Christian’s] character to be totally redeeming ... And I actually didn’t find him to be that interesting.”

Henry Cavill

He's a bird, he's a plane, he's... never going to star in the "tacky" Fifty Shades of Grey. Man of Steel star Cavill shot down rumors that he's in the running to play Christian Grey: "Not exactly chaste writing, is it? I’ve always preferred the implied sex scene anyway, because having it spelt out always seems a bit tacky. Sex is so readily available to us in every form of media now, so it’s no longer that exciting on screen." But, then again, has he seen

Sorry, The Waltons fans. It's just not going to happen.
