Another Big Award for 'Gravity'

by Emma Goddard

Though the Alfonso Cuarón movie Gravity didn’t take away an award for Best Picture earlier this year at the Oscars, the film’s trailer did receive a win at an entirely different awards ceremony. On Friday, May 30, Gravity took home the Golden Trailer Awards' top honor. After seeing Gravity’s trailer for the first time in theaters in 2013 and basically being on the edge of my seat the entire time, there’s no doubt in my mind that the movie deserved this win.

The film, which featured George Clooney as astronaut Matt Kowalski and Sandra Bullock as Dr. Ryan Stone, picked up Best of Show for its "Detached" trailer, while also winning Best Thriller, Best Thriller TV Spot, and Best Drama Poster. The film was also nominated for Most Original Trailer, Best Drama TV Spot, Best Graphics in a TV Spot, and Best Action Poster.

At the Golden Trailer Awards, Godzilla and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire received their fair share of awards, while Gravity distributor Warner Bros. went into the ceremony with 51 nominations (the most for the 15th annual trophy show) and won 15 awards. Its competitor, Universal, came in second with nine wins, while Lionsgate took third with eight.
