Carrie Bradshaw's Very Best Style Advice

by Samantha Matthews

Sex and the City celebrated its tenth anniversary of the final episode in February, but the show still lives on through reruns and the two movies that followed the series. Despite the fact that when the show impacted women in the '90s I wasn't even a teenager, I fell in love with the series years ago when the reruns left me glued to my TV. I'm certainly a self-proclaimed SATC superfan; yes, I know where Carrie Bradshaw lived. Of course there are aspects of the show that were directly related to the '90s — like smoking anywhere and everywhere, the popularity of house phones, and Carrie's wariness towards e-mail. But there's also another generation of girls (myself included) who still refer to themselves and their friends as either a Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha and are waiting for their own Mr. Big for "Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love."

And although some of the outfits were completely outrageous even then, Carrie Bradshaw's wise words of fashion wisdom still resonate with fashionistas today. Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha all had one liners that left me laughing uncontrollably, as well as heartfelt messages that made me also realize that some of my greatest girlfriends were my soul mates, but some of my favorite quotes ever come from Carrie. From her famous quotes to her fabulous wardrobe and dream writing job, I can't help but get carried away.

1. You don't need a diamond ring when you can have a really big closet

A really big closet is a fashionista's dream. I'm still waiting for mine!

2. When your love life is at a standstill your shoe game benefits

I mean who wants their ankles to suffer from a life of boredom?

3. You can never have too many pairs of shoes.

There is no need to make excuses for how many pairs of shoes you have (I never do and either did Carrie).

4. You don't have to be the girl who can wear white and not spill on it.

"I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it." Sames, Carrie.

5. You need really special shoes.

"The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun." Really special shoes to make the walk a little more fun? That is something I am definitely on board with.

6. You should keep your money right where you can see it

"I like my money where I can see it — hanging in my closet." Just another reason to need a really big closet.

7. Fashion can feed you too

"When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner. I felt it fed me more." I feel you, Carrie.
