Jessie J's "Bang Bang" Acoustic Cover Is Crazy Boring Without Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj — VIDEO
Ever since "Bang Bang" by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj was released on Tuesday, it has become something of a summer anthem. Honestly, any song that has Ariana Grande on it is guaranteed to become a season anthem, but Jessie J and Nicki Minaj shine just as much on the track and the three girls worked so well together that the song is unnecessarily addictive. The song hasn't even been out for a week yet and Jessie J has performed an acoustic version of "Bang Bang" on the Elvis Duran Show. Considering the three women share the song, the album cover, and credit on the song, how does Jessie J's acoustic version compare to the single itself?
Most acoustic songs tend to be softer (and thus more boring) versions of whatever song was originally released. I'm not saying that acoustic covers are bad, because oftentimes they can be better than the song itself, but the acoustic cover of "Bang Bang" really lost something without the bass line that thrums throughout the track. Jessie J hit all of the notes, but Ariana Grande's verse was noticeably lacking without Ariana Grande actually there to sing it. And without Nicki Minaj's rap verse, the whole thing was just a lot less dynamic and a lot more... well, good. But not great.
Naturally, Elvis Duran volunteered before Jessie J began to do Nicki Minaj's rap portion for her, but sadly what could have been a truly epic moment didn't actually occur. The acoustic version of "Bang Bang" proves it's still a good song even without all of the studio dressing that has you dancing your way around the house every time you play the song, but it's just missing a lot of its punch. This version won't get you fired up, but it does make for nice background noise while you're doing something else.
