'Pompeii' Meets 'Game of Thrones' In New Trailer

by Lindsay Mannering

Like volcanos? Like fire raining from the sky? Like that hot guy from Game of Thrones? Then do we have a movie for you. The official trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii is out and it's got everything you could want from a sweeping disaster movie: an epic natural catastrophe, ambiguous and egregious British accents, and abs. Starring Kit Harington (Jon Snow from GoT), Emily Browning, Kiefer Sutherland, and Carrie-Anne Moss, Pompeii was written, directed, and produced by Anderson, who's best known for all those Resident Evil movies.

The movie is set back in 79 A.D. and takes place in a town near Naples, Italy, just days before the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The trailer opens with dead bodies covered in ash, which would've definitely given us goose-bumps had we not been on the look out for Gloria Stuart — the music in Pompeii sounds like the music from Titanic, and it was more than a little distracting.

But once we got over the fact that we weren't going to be seeing an elderly woman drop a bagillion dollar necklace into the ocean, we were able to focus on the love story that takes place in the the middle of one of the most catastrophic events in human history. At the heart of the matter: Harrington must race to get back home to his lady-friend played by Browning, but uh-oh, that pesky fire-storm of hell provides a little bit of a roadblock.

We're all in on this one, if only because come February, we can't wait to sit in a theater with a gigantic popcorn and watch dudes in ab-baring armor take on a volcano.

Pompeii hits theaters February 21.
