This Is Where Your State's Wealthiest People Live

by Emma Cueto

So where do all the wealthy people live in your state? Well, thanks to a map from Business Insider, you can now find out. After looking at data from the 2008-2012 American Community Survey, they identified the places with the highest median income in each of the 50 states, and marked them out on a helpful map, along with what that median income might be. Because are we tired of informative maps yet? Hell no, we aren't!

To no one's surprise, the town with the country's highest median income is in southern California. I mean, if you were rich, wouldn't you want to live in southern California? Still, I wouldn't have predicted that last-ranking state on the list would be Nebraska — maybe wealth is just more equitably distributed there, so that's why their town with the highest median income still seems so middle class.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'd also be interested to see a map of towns with the lowest median income in each state — especially to see what kind of proximity those towns might have to the wealthy ones. Or if they happen to be major cities — certainly none of the wealthiest places in each state seem to be major cities; in fact I don't recognize almost any of them, which leads me to believe they're probably those weird, gated-community-filled suburban places.

Anyway, here are the top five most affluent towns in the country. Head on over to Business Insider for the full list and accompanying map.
