How to Dress For a Really Busy Day, Courtesy of New York Fashion Week's Elite

Fashion Week is like the marathon of the couture world. Models, bloggers, editors, and photographers are running around New York all day (10, 12, 14-hour stretches) while faced with the biggest challenge of them all: how to look chic while doing so. Next time you have a superlong day staring at you, take inspiration from these NYFW ladies of the hour. They might be frazzled and stressed, but we can't tell.

Stick to a minimal beauty routine that'll get you from early morning to after midnight — model-pretty Miss Emily takes on NYFW with messy hair and not-there makeup. When you start with a fresh, maintenance palette, there's not a lot that can go wrong (no lipstick on teeth, no flyaways escaping your ballerina bun).

Go for forgiving silhouettes, like Leandra Medine's breezy oversized white shirt-dress. If you're gonna be out and about all day (and possibly consuming a lot of doughnuts and iced chais), you really don't want to be in a bandage dress or tight, high-waisted shorts. Look for something you can kind of float around in.

Ain't nothing wrong with putting comfort above all else! Taylor Tomasi Hill (the style and accessories director for Marie Claire) always kills it with her tomboy-cool style. While other people are wobbling around in sky-high heels, Tomasi Hill slips on sneakers and a sweatshirt... and looks cooler than them all.

If your jam-packed 14-hour can't-miss stay-on-point day is make-or-break important, why not spring for a professional hairdo beforehand? Snag an early blowout appointment (make it worth it by toting along a cappuccino), and get your hair styled just how you want it. You'll feel confident all day, and you won't have to worry about your DIY beach waves falling flat.

@rumineely

Extra-tired? You're allowed to grab to sunglasses and a bro-y hat to disguise your hangover/add a purposeful edge to your slump. Warning: You will look like you think you're really cool.

Go bold. If you want to stay on your game all day, you'll need a face that looks confident even when you feel rattled. Some statement brows and a killer red-orange lip should do it.

If all else fails, a puppy in your Céline tote is 1,000 percent guaranteed to make your day a smashing success.
