'Hello Ladies' Will Be Your Favorite New Comedy

Sometimes, a show comes along, and you know after reading the first sentence about it that it's going to be great. That was exactly how I felt after reading about Stephen Merchant's upcoming HBO series Hello Ladies a year ago, when it was described as an offbeat comedy following an Englishman who is looking for true love in L.A. but is "half as charming as he thinks he is — and twice as desperate — he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people ... unfortunately the beautiful people won’t let him in."

Add in the fact that Stephen Merchant was also one of the writers on Extras, and he co-created Life's Too Short and the British version of The Office, and it's hard to see how this show won't be a hit.

Luckily, this newly-released trailer only confirms all that. Featuring Merchant at his best — awkwardly roaming Los Angeles looking for true love and greeting every group of women he sees with "hello, ladies," that is — if the show is even half as good as the trailer, it'll be appointment viewing when it premieres Sept. 29 at 10:30 p.m., on HBO.
