From 'American Horror Story' to 'The Hunger Games'

by Alanna Bennett

Lionsgate's been gearing up big time for production on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2. The mouthful of a production recently cast not one but four important roles in the films, and now has cast another: American Horror Story's Lily Rabe will join up as Commander Lyme.

The studio made the announcement today via the Hunger Games' official Facebook page on the heels of last week's announcements that Julianne Moore would be joining the cast as President Coin.

Lionsgate really has a lot to deal with in its two-part adaptation of Mockingjay: The book itself is one part the mental breakdown of the main character, one part full-on war movie. Lyme comes in as an element of the latter, a former victor of the Games and a commander of the rebellion in District 2.

Lyme plays a key role in Katniss's time in District 2 , so Rabe's casting is a probable indication that that part of the story will not be cut. Those who have read the books might remember the important thematic role Lyme played in the ethical discussion of just how brutally the rebels were willing to destroy the Capitol's stronghold in 2.

Get ready for violence, mental breaks, and loads of discussion of war crimes! It seems that's what Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2 are shaping up to be.
