Lena Went Back to Her Hair Roots

by Erin Mayer

Between Rita Ora's constantly fluctuating locks and Katy Perry's rainbow of coiffures, 2014 was an adventurous year for hair. Our IRL Hannah Horvath changed up her 'do quite a few times over those twelve months, first by going platinum blonde, then by revealing an Oscar-the-Grouch-green bowl cut. It seems 2015 might mark the return of hair normalcy, however, because Lena Dunham's hair is brunette once again.

Dunham unveiled a sleek brown bob during the season four premiere of GIRLS, which took place at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. She paired her sophisticated (new? old?) look with a wildly funky Creatures of the Wind dress that featured shoulder cutouts and iridescent rainbow stripes that curved out from the sleeves down to the slightly flared hem.

The 28-year-old actress and writer is often a style hit-or-miss for me, but I really appreciate her unabashed quirkiness. This ensemble works especially well for her because it balances more classic elements with super fun details. I'm loving the newly subdued hair color, which is sort of a deep mahogany and helps to anchor Dunham's wild-child personal style sensibilities. She's really coming into her own fashion-wise. Perhaps this signals maturation for a certain Iowa-bound 20-something writer that Dunham plays on TV?

Side note: check out those incredible back cutouts!

An all-around win for Dunham!
