Isabel Marant Goes Edgy for the Spring Campaign

by Sienna Fantozzi

The Queen of Boho is getting slightly more fierce for Spring. Isabel Marant cast Natasha Poly for the spring 2015 campaign, and the released ads are far less flower child and much more warrior princess. But one who still has a whole ton of fun, of course.

Marant's spring campaign images, released on Monday and shot by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, are dynamically edgier than past shoots have been. Since the inspiration behind the runway show was tribal, the campaign was meant to show a modern and urban girl with a savage attitude. Poly is photographed dressed in an oversized belted jacket, a printed miniskirt, and the now infamous Jesus leather sandals, tapping into her wild, and whimsical, side. Though her sculpted bun and smokey under-eye makeup give off a strength, a bold fearlessness, Poly plays with humor, showing through her poses that the Isabel Marant girl doesn't take herself too seriously. It's animalistic, yet by no means untouchable. Though the campaign certainly departs from what we've come to expect of Marant's signature aesthetic, it's a refreshing deviation, a way to keep the designer relevant and true to her cool, relaxed style without becoming boring, or worse, predictable.
