Show Us Cumberbatch's Dragon, 'The Hobbit'!

by Kate Ward

I might have been one of the few to truly appreciate 2012's The Hobbit — otherwise known as The Hobbit: Watch Bilbo Pack For His Unexpected Journey For Two Hours — but, surely, I'm not the only one enthusiastic about the film's follow-up, Dec. 13's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Because not only does the film also star Martin Freeman's Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch, but because the film stars Martin Freeman's Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch as a dragon. And if Game of Thrones has taught us anything, it's that people love dragons. And breasts. But mostly dragons.

But it seems director Peter Jackson and co., are waiting until Dec. 13 to give you an up close and personal look at Cumberbatch's fire-breather. In a new trailer released for the film, we get a sneak peek at those things we loved in the first movie — but if a peek at Bilbo and other various hot dwarves isn't enough to encourage you to make the journey to the theaters, perhaps a peek at Orlando Bloom's Legolas and Ian McKellan's Gandalf will do the trick. (Not to mention a first, live-action look at Evangeline Lilly's Tauriel, a new Middle Earth character who will seemingly have a romance with Legolas. First date: the Clairol Nice and Easy aisle at Rivendell's drug store.) Sure, you might not get too much Cumberbatch this time around, but you do get more action than in all of The Hobbit franchise's first offering.

Of course, let's not count out a scene in which Bilbo waits in line at the bank for 20 minutes to cash in his gold.
