'Downton Abbey' Cast Pulls Adorable Move At SAGs

by Kadeen Griffiths

Who would dare pit Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, and House of Cards against each other without expecting blood to be drawn? The 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards would dare. Oh, did they dare. And, on Sunday night, only one show could emerge victorious in the Ensemble in Drama Series category, despite all five shows having outstanding ensembles in their drama series. It's enough to make you want to pull a Mean Girls, break the statue into pieces, and start throwing it out into the audience. Surprisingly, that's actually rather similar to what happened when Downton Abbey won Ensemble in Drama Series, but the show still deserves the victory. In fact, the cast pretty much showed how to accept Ensemble Awards the right way.

When they got up on the stage to accept the award, they did exactly what you would expect to happen when an entire cast gets on the stage. Everyone stands there and smiles, while only one person holds the statue and speaks. That's when the game changer happened. "In the spirit of ensemble," the award got passed from person to person so that everyone could try and squeeze their own personal thank you's and shout outs into the time they were allotted by the Guild. And it was more than a little adorable. If Downton Abbey didn't deserve it for great acting, then the show certain deserved it for having such a selfless cast and adorable cast.

Then again, I would expect nothing else from a show that has the amazing Maggie Smith among its cast. And you know that your show is doing something right when even people who were rooting for a different show to take home the prize can't help but admit how adorable you are.
