Listen, we've had enough of lady-musicians fighting this past week. Sinead O'Connor wrote not one but four open letters to Miley Cyrus, and while it brought up some interesting issues, we're tired and we're ready for something positive. Which is why, when Lorde mentioned Miley Cyrus is her "favorite Disney pop star," we restrained ourselves from going "huh, why?" and moved straight on to "aw, that's kinda cute."
Speaking to MTV in an interview recently, Lorde reminded us both that she is only 16 and that she's still pretty new to the business — and that both of those things are great. She didn't have that air about her that follows a lot of public figures around. You know the one — the one where you can just picture a publicist glaring from the sidelines to make sure everything stays on-script.
So, asked who her favorite of the Disney pop stars is, she immediately said Cyrus. Musing on who the others in the category are, she also noted that she was a big fan of Camp Rock, which starred Demi Lovato.
Could this Miley Cyrus comment be the beginning of a beautiful friendship? I dunno, maybe. But when Lorde's "Royals" overtook Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" on the charts, Cyrus did tweet a show of support to Lorde, complimenting her music and denouncing the "Wrecking Ball" fans who took the achievement as a reason to Twitter-attack Lorde.
I'm gonna call it a beautiful friendship. The pop world could use another one of those about now.
