I have a feeling a lot of people can relate to this story. While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ansel Elgort talked about his mom meeting Bruce Willis at the 2015 Oscars, where Elgort presented. However, the encounter with the man who will forever be known as John McClane from Die Hard didn't go exactly as Elgort had hoped. Not only did his mom have no idea who any of the stars were at the Academy Awards, but when shaking hands and meeting Willis, well, let's just say she kind of embarrassed Elgort. He told Fallon,
They were introduced and my mom said, "Oh, hi, what's your name?" And he said, "I'm Bruce." And she said, "Oh, what do you do? Your wife's a model." And he said, I'm an actor," and she said, "Oh, my son's an actor. How's it going for you?"
Didn't that just make your day? Hilarious, right? Anyone else feel like their parents would do this exact same thing upon meeting a celebrity? I know for sure my dad would. He has no idea who anyone is. If George Clooney was sitting next to him, he'd have no clue that it was Dr. Doug Ross from ER. However, there's no doubt that he'd recognize Willis, because, well, Die Hard 2 is one of my dad's favorite Christmas movies.
So, Elgort, I feel your pain and can 100 percent relate to your story. And, hey, at least your mom didn't start quoting John McClane quotes, right?
