Is This "Hotter" Actress Replacing Shailene Woodley?
Poor Shailene Woodley. First the actress is snubbed from Spider-Man 2 — her scenes were cut from the sequel in order for the story to focus on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and first girlfriend Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) — and now, her role in the franchise might be cut altogether.
At least, if the rumors are to be believed. After word was released that Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method) had been cast in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in an unidentified role, fanboys and girls began speculating that the actress was brought on board to replace Woodley in the role of Mary Jane Watson.
Some reports, however, claim she isn't intended to be a replacement for Woodley, even if that might align with the wishes of some Spider-Man fans. When pictures of Woodley as Mary-Jane on the set of Spider-Man 2 were released, some complained the actress wasn't "hot enough" to portray Peter Parker's girlfriend. Really?
So is Gadon being brought on board for that reason? Let's hope not. But if the rumors are true, let's just enjoy Woodley's eventual breakout in August's The Spectacular Now . Who needs franchises, Shailene?
