Jennifer Lopez's Selena Tribute At The Billboard Latin Awards Is A Touching Commemoration Of The Iconic Singer — VIDEO
J. Lo isn't just a goddess on the red carpet. She's a diva on stage. During Thursday's Billboard Latin Awards, Jennifer Lopez's Selena tribute wowed the Miami crowd with a five-song medley that brought back memories of Lopez's breakthrough film role as the Tejano singer who was tragically murdered in 1995. The tribute to Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was in honor of the 20th anniversary of her death.
Lopez wore a blush crop top and high-waisted jeweled pants and sported a red lip much like in Selena's style. As images and videos of Selena cascaded in the background, Lopez crooned "Como La Flor" before moving into the upbeat "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom." She went on to sing "Amor Prohibido" and the only English-language song "I Could Fall In Love," before finishing off with "No Me Queda Mas." Lopez was joined on stage by Selena's sisters, Suzette and A.B., and husband Chris Pérez, who was a member of Selena's band Los Dinos. At the end of the tribute, Lopez thanked the crowd with tears in her eyes.
Remember J. Lo's Celia Cruz tribute at the American Music Awards back in 2013? That performance showed Lopez still had the explosive dance moves that first put her on the music map. But her Selena tribute was much more personal. After all, Lopez's starring role in the 1997 film Selena all those years ago pretty much made her a star, and Lopez has since taken the mantle of the queen of Latin music.
Check out the tribute below, and you'll see those familiar glimpses of Selena still living in J. Lo today.
