Jourdan Slays At The Met Gala In Custom Burberry

by Alexa Tucker

It's not exactly often that one of the world's most famous supermodels disappoints on the red carpet, but the custom Burberry gown Jourdan Dunn wore to tonight's Met Gala is especially incredible. The intricate lace, the rich color, the daring slit — I don't know what's more stunning, the dress or the woman in it. (OK, probably the woman in it. But still.)

The British luxury fashion house shared a sneak peek of the dress on Twitter earlier today, revealing a sketch of the London-born model in the chic creation. So we already knew her dress would slay, but the artsy preview definitely didn't do much justice to Dunn's actual red carpet moment.

Dunn kept her accessories simple, opting for a bold green ring to offset the deep red and black color palette of her dress. Working braids (no sleek bob here tonight!) and impossibly glowing skin, Dunn kept her beauty look natural and fresh too, save for a dramatically winged eye, letting the dress shine. And why wouldn't she? A gown this gorgeous doesn't need to be played up, much less when it's being worn by a model.

Last year, Dunn wore a Topshop dress to the Met Gala that was auctioned off to benefit Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, but even though the proceeds from that one went to charity, I still have to say that this year's dress tops it. And hey, maybe Burberry will auction off this one, too. I'd seriously consider throwing in a bid.

Too pretty! I love the ultra high slit and the subtle floral embroidery that nods toward the theme without heading into culturally appropriative territory.
