Natalie Portman Makes Daytime Sequins Work

by Melanie Richtman

Leave it to Natalie Portman to make sequins work at a daytime event. Portman, who is the face of Miss Dior, wore a sequined minidress from Dior's pre-fall collection while attending the UCLA Younes & Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies Gala on May 5, where she presented Israeli author Amos Oz an award. Portman directed a film based on Oz's memoir A Tale of Love and Darkness, which will debut at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

Portman's Dior dress is anything but simple. Although it has a simplistic shift shape, the beading on dress is truly intricate, featuring an almost ikat-like pattern around the hem of the dress and across the bust. While sequins are usually reserved for evening events and after parties, Portman kept her sparkly Dior minidress daytime-appropriate by not over-accessorizing.

The gorgeous Academy award-winning actress made her glam dress the standout feature with a sleek low ponytail and neutral makeup, accessorizing with petite hoop earrings, minimalist strappy sandals, and a slim clutch. If you want to recreate Portman's sequined look for day, you have to focus on wearing simple accessories and keeping your makeup as low-key as possible for a fresh, but still glam look.
