Celebs Support Historic Vote in Ireland

by Daniela Cabrera

The times are slowly a-changin'! On the morning of May 22, the polls were opened for voters in Ireland to make the historic decision on whether to legalize same-sex marriage in their country. While the polling stations were opened on Friday morning, the counting of votes is said to begin early on Saturday morning, British Standard Time. More than 3.2 million people are eligible to vote in this historic decision and the official question posed on the voting ballot will whether voters agree with this statement: "Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex."

Because no mail-in voting was allowed, Irish citizens from all over the world have actually travelled back home to make sure they are part of the action, with many using the hashtag #hometovote, along with the popular #VoteYes and #MarRef2015. This referendum is being presented nearly 22 years after the decriminalization of homosexual acts in Ireland. So, yes, there is finally progress! Many celebs have taken to their social media pages to show their support and solidarity for the movement in Ireland. Whether they're Irish-born or not, it's beautiful to see all of the stars in the public eye choosing to so outwardly support love above all.
