Is This Why You're Single?

When it comes to dating, everybody has certain standards — like maybe you don't date musicians, or you don't date guys with the same name as your ex. We all do it to some extent, but are your ridiculous standards the reason you're single? Elite Daily thinks so, and they've created a video called "Why Our Ridiculous Standards Are Keeping us Single" to try to get women to accept that our dating standards are ridiculously arbitrary. Like, OK, ladies? Cut it out with your longing to find a "nice guy who has a job" because that's just totally unreasonable and you're really doing yourself a disservice.

Don't get me wrong, I totally get that sometimes people rule other prospective dates out because of weird "rules" they have. There was even a Reddit thread on the Seinfeld-esque reasons people have ever turned down a date. But can we stop acting like only women do this? We all sabotage our own love lives because of superficial reasons sometimes. I'm totally on board with the message the video was trying to portray — that we should really push ourselves to look past our shallow "deal-breakers" — but honestly, a lot of the qualities in the video are not at all ridiculous, like wanting someone who's "funny and smart." If, however, you shoot someone down because they're wearing flip flops, then you probably do need to reevaluate your standards.
