'Catching Fire' Is Just Being Miley

by Kristie Rohwedder

Combining two good things doesn't always guarantee great results. I love hot dogs and I love Nutella, but I know better than to put Nutella on a hot dog. So when I heard about "Reaping Ball," the Catching Fire-themed parody of "Wrecking Ball," I was nervous that it'd be a Nutella-covered hot dog situation. "Reaping Ball" is not a Nutella-covered hot dog situation. The pairing of the soon-to-be-blockbuster movie and the hit Miley Cyrus power ballad is flat-out brilliant.

"Wrecking Ball" is my JAM. A poorly-executed "Wrecking Ball" parody is not my jam. Fortunately, "Reaping Ball" not a poorly-executed parody. It is flawless. It is exactly what it needs to be. I might've teared up a little bit while watching it. Nothing could've prepared me for the journey it would take me on. Spoiler alert: STOLEN GLANCES DURING THE REAPING. EFFIE TRINKET. RUE.

The concept of "Reaping Ball": Gale is singing about Katniss. He is singing a parody of a Miley Cyrus song. A character usually portrayed by Liam Hemsworth is singing a parody of a Miley Cyrus song. Liam Hemsworth. Miley Cyrus. AUGHHHH. I wasn't kidding when I said this video was brilliant.

Here's a taste of some the gut-wrenching lyrics: "I used to often say/We should run away/But you became a tribute/Now you live a lie/Fighting for your life/I will always want you." Don't mind me while I go sweep up the pieces of my shattered heart.
