Anna Sui Launches A Swimwear Line

by Eliza Florendo

Nobody gets '70s boho chic quite like Anna Sui, and she does so with a modern spin, too. Luckily for all of us, she's tackling a new frontier: Anna Sui is launching a swimwear line with Onis Design Group, and judging from the sketches alone, it's going to be one for fashion girls that want to stray away from the classic black triangle bikini.

The capsule collection will contain 35 pieces, from bikinis, to one-pieces, to cover-ups. From the sketches, we can see that there'll be lots of polka dots (but done so sophisticatedly), and a consistent color palette of blacks and reds. According to WWD, "Sui wanted the range to be “classic Anna” and divided the lineup into two themes, one in red-and-black with ruffles, cherries and stars; the other riffing on her signature butterfly patterns and preference for purple."

Though Sui has done a collaboration with O'Neill last spring, this is the first time she's signed on to create a full blown swimwear line. Judging from her effortlessly Bohemian collection for O'Neill, this new line is going to be a knockout. Though this line seems to be a bit more sophisticated and high fashion, with asymmetrical cuts and a lot of black.

My favorites include the cover up, which looks more like a duster jacket lined with a contrasting color. Why not take the long, sophisticated silhouettes to the beach or a pool party? In a lighter fabric, it would be perfect for transitioning from a hot summer day to a cool night.

This is a huge win for Sui, and I can't wait to see and shop the full line. Check out the full sketch on WWD.
