How To Take Nearly Any Outdoor Summer Adventure To The Next Level

Hiking, camping, trail running, and more can all benefit from this one tip.

by Erin Kelly

Over the past year, many of us have discovered just how wonderful — and essential — the great outdoors really are. I don’t know about you, but in the last 12 months, I’ve gone on more hiking adventures, attended more picnics, and frequented more parks and trails in my neighborhood (and beyond!) than ever before. Hell, I’ve even gone camping!

In addition to adopting a greater appreciation for outdoor spaces, I’ve also slowly transformed my wardrobe from practical office-wear pieces to more comfortable and functional activewear — because why would you wear stuffy dress pants if you don’t really have to? Fortunately for me (and anyone else who’s found themselves feeling more outdoorsy these days), The North Face’s new loyalty program, XPLR Pass™, is making it easier than ever to take on your next adventure in style.

XPLR Pass is a loyalty program that gives members access to the best products The North Face has to offer, including exclusive gear and early access to limited-edition collections and collaborations. As an XPLR Pass member, you’ll be notified about the latest drops, which include some of the most legit gear for hiking, camping, trail running, winter sports, and climbing available on the market.

And despite being incredibly high-tech and catering to specific sports and activities, the brand’s pieces also work just as well (and look just as good) for those low-key, less adrenaline-pumping days. So rest assured that XPLR Pass has you covered, whether you’ll be skiing in the Alps next winter or just trying to get from your car to your cubicle.

But it’s more than just your typical loyalty program. XPLR Pass works double time by empowering members to explore, giving them the resources they need to embrace that outdoor life. Members receive a 50% discount for one year on AllTrails Pro to help them discover the best trails in their area, as well as exclusive content from The North Face athletes like legendary rock climbers Alex Honnold and Emily Harrington.

Here’s how it works: When you join, you receive 10% off your first purchase online or in-store — no strings attached. As you shop and build up your adventure closet, you’ll earn one point for every $1 spent. Every $100 spent gets you a $10 reward. Who can say no to free money? Not I, for one.

You can also earn points for things beyond making a purchase, like for referring a friend (25 points!), downloading The North Face app (10 points!), buying sustainable clothing from The North Face’s Renewed Collection (25 points!), and bringing your own reusable bag to stores (10 points!). You can even rack up five points just for checking out nature — by checking in to a National Park or National Monument using TNF’s mobile app (5 points!).

While getting points just for buying gear I already need is pretty incredible, by far my favorite feature of the program is product field testing. Members are able to purchase some of the brand’s best products, try them out in the wild, and return them if they don’t perform as expected. If the jacket you bought is too heavy for your adventure or the bag doesn’t fit everything you had planned, you can simply return and continue searching for the best product for your exploration style.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve started making a list of what I’m planning to buy as a member — starting with a backpack for overnight trips, a raincoat for dreary, wet trail runs, and some heavy wool socks to keep cozy around bustling campfires this summer.
