11 Fashion Items Feminists Need In 2017

With the record-busting Women's March in the rearview mirror, and Women's History Month on the horizon, it's about time to be stocking up on fashion items that make a feminist AF statement. Luckily for us, there are tons of shirts with awesome empowering slogans and art that you're basically going to need to make it through 2017.

Honestly, things are really scary right now, and while I'm not exactly saying fashion is the answer, it still helps more than you'd think. Because in addition to being a nice mood boost and a fun way to express your personal values, there are a lot of great brands out there that are feminist in action as well as aesthetic. In other words, they practice what they preach, whether that means donations to the ACLU, socially conscious principles, giving jobs to women, or a mix of all three and more. Seriously, the fact that you can get a shirt that a) Says "Nasty Woman" on it, b) Has raised over $125,000 for Planned Parenthood, and c) Is legitimately stylish and cute, is very heartening in very disheartening times.

So, ready to get your philanthropically feminist retail therapy on? Keep reading for some of the best empowering fashion items money can buy.

1. 100% Human Tee

This shirt has a great message, and it's got a philanthropic side as well — each shirt equals a $5 donation to the ACLU.

2. Bevel Sweater

This top might not have a splashy slogan, but it comes from Gravel & Gold, a San Francisco-based, woman-owned design collective.

3. Nasty Woman Tee

Celebs like Julia Louis Dreyfus and Katy Perry made quite the statement in these adorably nasty T-shirts from Google Ghost. The indie brand donates 50 percent of the proceeds of each shirt to Planned Parenthood, and they've raised over $125,000 to date!

4. Feminist Patch

There are a lot of cool T-shirts and sweatshirts on this list — but with some good patches and pins in your arsenal, you can turn pretty much anything into feminist apparel.

5. F*ckin Lady Dress

The Reformation is a great brand, seeing as it's both cutting edge chic and sustainable. This floaty gorgeous dress is especially fun, seeing as it has the words "F*ckin Lady" daintily embroidered onto the collar.

6. Love Tee

Whenever they sell one of these simple-yet-striking tees, KULE donates 30 percent of the proceeds to the ACLU. Double win!

7. Cats Over Catcalls Tee

As stated on their website, Femininitees creates "one-of-a-kind, embroidered T-shirts created by two women, for all women." They donate a portion of all proceeds to the National Organization for Women, and their tees are hilarious — especially this one that cleverly calls out catcalls.

8. Commemorative Official WMW Tee

Did you participate in the Women's March on Washington (or any of the satellite marches that took place worldwide)? If so, you're definitely going to want a commemorative T-shirt, especially one that has already raised over $1.3 million dollars in the name of the March.

9. Women's March on Washington Pin

If you liked the Women's March T-shirt, you're probably also going to want this classy Women's March pin, which comes along with a sweet 15 percent donation to Planned Parenthood.

10. The Future is Female Sweatshirt

Female empowerment in comfy sweatshirt form. Plus, Otherwild is another brand that has philanthropic inclinations — 25 percent of the proceeds from their "Future is Female" line goes to Planned Parenthood too.

11. Organic Cotton Hand-Painted Fried Egg Tee

This cheeky tee is a lot of fun, and Birdsong's another brand you should keep your eye out for — they're very socially conscious, and hire many of their seamstresses and artists from various women's organizations. Plus, they're anti-retouching, which is always cool!

Did anything in the list above catch your eye? Those charitable contributions sure make all the shopping you're about to do easier to justify.
