Roughly three months after news broke about their split, Bella Hadid is talking about her breakup with The Weeknd. In a candid interview with Teen Vogue, the model said that, while it may seem like she handled it flawlessly, it was rougher than it looked. “It was my first breakup... and so public. As an outsider, you might think I handled it so well, but it’s always in your heart, and you always feel it very heavily,” she said. “It’ll be hard for a while. Love hurts, but you have to pull through.” Such a mature response isn't surprising given the very undramatic and amicable nature of the couple's breakup, but it also emphasizes how strong Hadid is.

According to People, Hadid and the Weeknd split after dating for around a year and a half because of scheduling conflicts: she was busy with her modeling career, while he (real name Abel Tesfaye) was focused on finishing and promoting his November album, Starboy. The model shared with Teen Vogue that, though they're no longer together, she'll always have love for the R&B crooner:

"I’ll always respect him, and I’ll always love him. Sometimes you want to be sad about it or handle it differently, but at the end of the day, you never want to burn a bridge that you’ve fought so hard to build.”

Handling your first heartbreak is hard no matter what the circumstances, especially after you have to face your ex on a runway as public as the Victoria's Secret fashion show, let alone in your underwear with the whole world watching. And then to have to confront rumors that he's already moved on? No, thank you.

After all of that, you have to commend Hadid for staying so poised and strong. That's a lot to deal with for your first breakup, but it sounds like she's hanging in there just fine. If she wasn't already one of your role models, maybe this should inspire you to add her name to the list, at least when it comes to how to graciously handle a breakup.
